The most beautiful university in Nigeria — top 10

If you ever wonder, which university is the most beautiful in Nigeria, then this one could be an answer. The University of Ibadan is the oldest university in the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Located in the south-west of the country in 8 km from the center of Ibadan in the state of Oyo.

This educational institution enjoys the reputation of one of the most prestigious African universities and intellectual centers south of the Sahara. University of Ibadan has a well-developed infrastructure of education. Under its aegis, a large number of scientific periodicals, magazines, and collections are published.

University of Nigeria, Nsukka

Nigerian University is a university with the status of a public university based in Nsukka, Nigeria. It was founded in 1955 but was formally opened on October 7, 1960. The University has three campuses located in Enugu and one in Aba.

This is the first fully independent university in Nigeria modeled on the American education system and one of the five most elite in the country. The university educates 36,000 students at 15 faculties and 102 scientific institutes.

University of Lagos

The University of Lagos is a clear favorite for the title of the most beautiful federal university in Nigeria. It is located in Lagos in western Nigeria. In 2013 it had the largest student population of any university in the country.

Obafemi Awolowo University

The Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) could be easily named as the most beautiful state university in Nigeria. It is located in the old cultural city of Ile-Ife in the state of Osun and is one of the older Nigerian universities.

The college was founded in 1962 as the University of Ife. After the death of former Prime Minister of West Nigeria and first University President Obafemi Awolowo in 1987, it was named after him in his honor.

In 2005/06 a total of 31,846 students were enrolled (3,088 as a postgraduate). The university has 1,066 teachers, including 265 professors, assistant professors, and lecturers.

Covenant University

What about the most beautiful private university in Nigeria? Our next institution could be it. Covenant University is a private Nigerian university located in Canaanland, Ota, Ogun. It was founded as the foundation project of the Winners’ Chapel Church (Living Faith Church) and was built in 2002. In 2006, CU had a population of 4,198 students.

The rector of the university, David Oyedepo, is at the same time president, founder, and bishop of the Winners’ Chapel. The university is strictly guided by evangelical Christian principles. According to the founding vision of Oyedepo, it helps to attract a new generation of leaders. The university buildings are located in Canaanland, where the headquarters of the Winners’ Chapel Church is located as well. There are three college buildings divided into 20 departments.

Ahmadu Bello University

The Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) is the second largest university in Nigeria. It is located in Zaria and was founded in 1962 as the University of Northern Nigeria. The university was named after the caliph of Sokoto, Sardauna Ahmadu Bello, the first prime minister of northern Nigeria.

In 2012, it had about 49,436 students and 736 teachers, including 236 professors. ABU maintains a university hospital, which is also one of the largest clinics in Nigeria. It was primarily set up for the socially underprivileged who can not afford the relatively high healthcare costs.

On the site of the ABU is a nuclear research reactor NIRR-1 (Nigeria Research Reactor 1). The 31 kW light water reactor was commissioned in February 2004 with the help of the China Institute of Atomic Energy.

Federal University of Technology, Minna

The Federal University of Technology Minna (abbreviated as FUT Minna) is a public higher education institution in Nigeria. FUT Minna began operations in 1982, the main building of the educational institution is located in Minna. Being one of the most prestigious universities in Nigeria, Federal University of Technology Minna is consistently ranked among the top 20 universities in the country.

This educational institution has its own library. Additionally, the Federal University of Technology Minna has a developed sports infrastructure and its own sports facilities. The university is part of the network of universities Association of African Universities (AAU).

University of Ilorin

Another federal institution on our list, University of Ilorin was founded in 1975. It is located in Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria, and has about 30 000 students on its list. Also, University of Ilorin could be named as one of the largest, its facilities cover approximately 5000 hectares.

University of Benin

The University of Benin (UNIBEN) in Benin City, Nigeria is one of the largest universities in Nigeria. It was founded in 1970 as Institute of Technology. On July 1971 it was recognized as a university by the National Commission for Universities. From April 1972, after the expansion of some faculties, the college was called University of Benin.

University of Abuja

The University of Abuja was founded on January 1, 1988. From those days, this institution became one of the most prestigious and keen. It works in dual-mode with the permission to provide distance and conventional learning programmes.
