Foreign Affairs minister on his mind as VP choice

Even as his family, close friends and allies are still mourning, AljazirahNigeria can authoritatively reveal that the late Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, Mallam Abba Kyari who died on April 17, 2020 due to coronavirus had concluded plans to contest in 2023 as president, succeeding Buhari, his boss.
This revelation was made when our reporter stumbled the minutes of a meeting chaired by the late Kyari with minsters and governors across party lines in attendance. Two items topped the discussion in that meeting: President Buharis successor in 2023 and pacification of the South-east geo-political region of the country.
In the meeting whose deliberations would only be made public in a most appropriate time, Mallam Kyari had informed those in attendance of his decision to become president come 2023. After telling them how he was the best candidate after understudying governance as Chief of Staff to the president since 2015 whose duties they can all bear witness to have taught him to navigate the affairs of the nation, and so him succeeding Buhari would be the best for sustainability.
Kyari then sympathised with the South-east geopolitical region saying although they are largely responsible for the position they are in the scheme of things in the country as they have neither tasted the offices of president and vice president, they could still have the support of other geopolitical regions if they (South-east) give him full support.
It would be recalled that sometime in March before he tested positive for COVID-19, Kyaris campaign materials surfaced online. The campaign shirts and face-caps which generated mixed reactions on social media, have the inscriptions: “Sustainability 2023′ ‘Towards sustaining the good policies and ideologies of President Muhamadu Buhari,” boldly written on them.
Earlier, there were rumours of Kyari warming up to take over from his boss in 2023, with sources saying his ambition was the cause of some major and obvious crisis at the Presidency as he (Kyari) allegedly sees some close allies to the President as a threat to his aspiration. These roumors began to look real when it was revealed that the All Progressive Congress, APC, may have dumped the idea of making Babagana Kingibe its standard bearer in the 2023 presidential election.
Sources within the partys top echelon had said the party was considering Kyari, seen by many as the defacto president, makeing every key decisions in the Muhammadu Buharis government. He is believed to be leader of the cabal that controls the presidency.
Kingibe hails from Borno State in the northeastern part of Nigeria, and is of Kanuri extraction. Kingibe who was chairman of the Social Democratic Party, SPD and later Vice Presidential candidate to late MKO Abiola who won the 1993 presidential election. He later joined late General Sani Abacha as the Foreign Minister of Nigeria from 1993 to 1995. Kingibe also served as Minister of Internal Affairs, Minister of Power and Steel, Nigerias Ambassador to Greece and Pakistan.
The arrowhead of the endorsement of Kyari is Mamman Daura, President Buharis uncle who currently resides in the presidential villa and also a power broker. This group were not disposed to Kingibe because they claim he is too old, (at 74) and that his role in the annulment of the 1993 presidential election may turn off those sympathetic to late Abiola in the South West .
Kyaris choice, sources say, was a natural one considering his power and clout in the presidency, and how most top politicians and businessmen hold him in awe.
Foreign Affairs minister, Godfrey Onyeama who is of Igbo extraction was picked by Kyari nd hs cohorts, the calculation being that the choice will impress the South East since the South West already has the Speakers slot, and because of Onyeamas laid back attitude and that he is not a politician with political godfathers like Osinbajo who has godfathers like Asiwaju Bola Tinubu who may want to rock the boat.
The cabal therefore moved to neutralize Tinubu and made his man, Osinbajo a figure head. Most of Tinubus ministerial candidates, like Yemi Cardozo, Wole Edun and others were rejected, while his rumored 2023 presidential election was and is still being watched closely.
The VP, and by extension Tinubu have been silenced with the plot to impeach the VP was considered. Sources said that the cabal directed that more dirt be dug up on the VP from areas like NEMA, The Tradermoni Programme, Social Security Investment Funds etc, as there are tons of allegations of embezzlement and mismanagement of funds against the VP.
Now that he is no more, Nigerians are wondering what the battle for the presidency come 2023 will look like. Abba Kyari was not only Buharis point man, he was his alter ego, he was the brain behind the government. He laid and hatched all the eggs. Never before in Nigeria had power rested so squarely on just one man.
Especially now that Bola Tinubus political empire is in serious crisis; Vice President Yemi Osinbajo obviously silenced, and Geofrey Onyema claiming he has no ambition for Aso Rock come 2023, Nigerians await the gladiators that will come up to contest for the presidency.
