Rivers state Governor Nyesome Wike has said there cannot be Nigeria without Igbos. He made the statement when some Igbos leaders paid him a visit at Government House in Port Harcourt. In a twitt, the governor said he doesn’t not hate Igbos.
The governor who came under heavy attack because of his comments about Igbos following the mayhem that ensued during the ENDSARS protest said there is no truth to the rumour that he is chasing Igbos out of state. In the wake of the EndSARS protests in Rivers, Wike had ordered the killing of IPOB members in River following which there is now proofs of killings at Obigbo in Rivers State following his order.
However according to the governor, in the wake of the Oyigbo crisis, the state has an enduring relationship with Igbos.
“This is not true because the state has an enduring relationship with Igbos.”
Continuing, he said Rivers people will continue to live together with Igbos.
” Igbos are innovative and hard working. There can’t be Nigeria without Igbos.
Nobody should take them for granted. But that doesn’t mean you must allow criminals to spoil your name.
“If I hate Igbos, I won’t appoint your son into my state cabinet two times. But you have to obey rules.
Don’t allow criminals to dictate to you,” he said.
